What Is RMU PD System?

The ring main unit partial discharge monitoring system consists of four parts: a three-in-one partial discharge sensor, a PD & temperature integrated monitoring HMI, a wireless temperature sensor, and a partial discharge and temperature data receiver.

This product utilizes a high-performance, low-power, and highly integrated processor, combining three monitoring methods—ultrasonic, ground wave, and ultra-high frequency—and employs wireless temperature measurement technology to measure temperature and partial discharge signals. It is widely applicable to medium and low-voltage power systems of 35KV and below, for measuring the temperature of electrical contacts and other components, and monitoring partial discharge in RMU switchgear.

Functions of the Ring Main Unit Online Partial Discharge Monitoring System

This PD monitoring system enables the monitoring of partial discharge signals in ring main units and the measurement of contact temperatures within switchgear. A three-in-one partial discharge sensor is used to monitor partial discharge signals during electrical equipment operation, while wireless temperature sensors monitor the internal temperature of the switchgear.

It monitors partial discharge within the switchgear and the temperature of contacts and other connection points, and wirelessly transmits the data to the HMI at regular intervals.

The HMI displays the received partial discharge data and contact temperature data using a bar chart showing the amplitude of the discharge data and the contact temperature data.

Configuration Instructions for the Ring Main Unit Online PD Monitoring System

The partial discharge monitoring HMI supports the acquisition of temperature data from up to 72 contact points, displaying real-time contact temperature, temperature curves, and other data. It also supports 6 partial discharge sensors.

The switchgear partial discharge three-in-one sensor combines three monitoring methods—ground wave, ultrasonic wave, and ultra-high frequency—for comprehensive monitoring of partial discharge signals. Wireless partial discharge sensors transmit data to a wireless partial discharge receiver, which then displays the data via the HMI.

The wireless temperature sensor collects the temperature of the temperature monitoring points (grounding switch, moving, and stationary contacts), uploads the data to a wireless data receiver, and then transmits it to the partial discharge monitoring HMI.

Ring Main Unit Online Partial Discharge Monitoring System Installation

The partial discharge monitoring HMI is installed in the instrument compartment of the switchgear (ring main unit).

The three-in-one partial discharge sensor is fixed to a DIN rail in the primary compartment of the switchgear (ring main unit).

Wireless temperature sensors are installed using cable ties at the moving and stationary contacts of the switchgear, at cable joints, and on busbars in the incoming and outgoing compartments.
